First, assessing the student's current skill level and knowledge of music theory is important. This can be done through a brief conversation and a quick demonstration of their current abilities. It is important to understand their strengths and weaknesses, as well as their musical preferences, to tailor the lessons to their specific needs.
Once I have assessed the student's level, you can begin to develop a lesson plan. This should include exercises to build technique and dexterity, as well as new songs or pieces to learn. Choosing songs that challenge the student but are still achievable with practice and dedication is important.
In addition to learning new songs, intermediate guitar students should focus on music theory and expand their instrument knowledge. This can include learning new scales, chords, and modes and studying music theory concepts such as chord progressions and song structure. I don't require students to read music or learn theory, but I suggest it.

I had the absolute pleasure of being taught by Mark for several years, and I can confidently say he is an extraordinary guitar teacher.
I felt a warm and welcoming atmosphere when I walked into Mark's studio. He possesses an incredible passion for music and inspires me to become a better guitarist. Mark's dedication to his craft and students is evident in every lesson he teaches.
One of the things that impressed me the most about Mark is his ability to tailor his teaching style to each student's needs. He took the time to understand my goals and aspirations as a guitarist and designed lessons specifically to help me achieve them. So whether I wanted to focus on technique, theory, or learning specific songs, Mark had a well-structured plan to ensure steady progress.
I cannot recommend Mark highly enough as a guitar teacher. His passion, expertise, and personalized approach make him an outstanding educator. If you're serious about learning the guitar and want to reach your musical goals, look no further than Mark. He truly deserves five stars, and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from him. Thank you, Mark, for everything you have done for me!

I started with Mark this past January and my improvement has been nothing short of miraculous. I wanted a teacher who could help my lead guitar playing go to the next level. This meant teaching theory and its application in a way that wasn't repetitive or dull, and that I could use immediately. Mark has done all that and more. I am a teacher by profession, so I recognize the good ones right away. Not only is Mark a fantastic guitarist, but, more importantly, a gifted teacher.

I have been taking guitar lessons from Mark for 7 years. Not only is he a superb player but he is what I would call a "master teacher." He truly understands how how to break things down musically and communicate them in a clear, logical fashion. He also is amazing at recommending practice routines and sets expectations that things may take awhile to learn, which I have found to be very empowering. I have a number of teachers over the years and none even come close to Mark. My playing has improved significantly as has my understanding of music theory. Lastly, Mark is a terrific person all the way around and clearly dedicated to his profession and students. If you're an intermediate or advanced player and maybe feel like you've plateaued or want to take it to the next level, Mark would be a perfect choice. I recommend highly.

I've been playing guitar for years , not professionally, just for fun .I've now been taking lessons with mark for the past two years .not only has my playing improved immensely but by knowledge of music and the guitar have greatly increased .mark has been the best guitar teacher I've ever had .I believe what makes mark special is his sincere commitment to being a great teacher .mark uses music that the student wants to play and then structures the learning around that . He's also very organized and provides a video of the lesson and charts . Highly recommend! He's the real deal .

Mark is a fantastic guitar instructor that has made me think about the various aspects of learning the instrument much differently. While sometimes I prefer taking lessons in New York City, he also teaches remotely online which is a great solution as well. He's very patient and methodical in addition to being a pleasure to be around. I always look forward to each new session. Psyched to have connected with such an awesome professional.
